Summer isn’t being shy this year, it’s hot. But that’s no reason to let up on looking fantastic. The secret? Finding fabrics that breathe with you (and amazing shoes don’t hurt either). This Reformation top is linen, and completely breathable- you can tie in all the way around or leave it open (for air or sex appeal). These JCrew shorts are lined but incredibly light. And shoes!! These are my beloved Jaquemus Circle/Square sandals; sold out everywhere except for ByGeorge who had the last pair in my size. I stumbled across them at SXSW and couldn’t resist. And if I do say so myself they are perfect for summer!

Hope you’re staying cool! Xo RA

Fashion in TV: Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

image

As we all look for shows to binge, I cannot recommend “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries” enough! Miss Fisher is set in Austrailia in the 1920s- and besides just sassy enough plot lines the fashion on this show is simply stunning. There are the usual 20s standards- drop waist, beading, and amazing details. I also love the pants suits and hats! In fact, I’m all for us coming together and bringing hats back. I may or may not be stalking hats on Etsy right now! What I love about the style on this show is that it stays historically accurate, yet feels modern. I still love a great pants suit, drop waist looks great on everyone, and the details are just stunning!

I’d love to know: do you watch the show? Would you wear any of these?

Happy Tuesday! Xo RA

#SXSW2016

image

I’m in Austin for SXSW- it’s my first and lovers it’s a great time. I’ll admit it’s a bit overwhelming – so many events, parties, people- however it is incredibly civil! There a ton of screenings, talks about fashion, lounges and networking events but everyone is organized, friendly and excited to be there!

Some tips:
-Unlike Cochella, etc, SXSW is spread out- wear comfortable shoes and leave time for shuttles, walking, etc
– I get cold in movie theaters so I’ve been throwing a scarf in my bag, and it’s a lifesaver
– you need a big bag, for things like water, schedule, etc
-I’m staying a bit outside downtown so am taking changes of clothes in the car for my night events.

Below see some of the things I’ve been up to! Hope you’re having a great week! XO RA

Sunday Chronicles: Birthday and SXSW

image

It’s the blog’s birthday! A year ago, despite not knowing 100% of what I was doing, I decided to go ahead and start a blog to share my style, love of fashion, and point of view with you. Many miles, shoes, outfits, and growth later this little labor of love is a year old. I cannot tell you how grateful I am that you let me share my little part of the internet with you. You are the biggest part of this site and I truly appreciate your support! I can’t wait for you to see all that is coming–more shoes, outfits, shopping and tips! Here’s to another great year!

Also!

This year I’m excited to say I’m going to the SXSW Film Festival (actually it started Friday, I’ve already seen so many great films and met amazing people). As an actress and a huge fan of film I’m truly excited! As a fashion lover I’m excited to share what people are wearing and details of events! On Tues/Thurs I’ll showcase street style and event details–and make sure that you’re following my instagram (@racheladelicia) for more picks!

Wishing us all a week of milestones and amazing shoes! XO RA

Winter Lace

Winter is no time to put away your lace–in fact there’s something unexpected about a lace top in the middle of the cold! My tips for winter lace–keep it long sleeved, make sure it’s paired with something a little on the warmer side (love these pants but jeans or a skirt work well too!) and don’t forget your coat!
Hope that if you’re on the East Coast you survived Jonas (and know I’m irrationally slightly jealous! This beach gal has never seen that much snow!)

Happy Monday! XO RA

Sunday. Chronicles: Detox

image

Relax my internet loves: this is not where I tell you that we’re only drinking juice (although I am a fan of the green juice and have been trying to include a few more in my routine).  But they seem to be everywhere, and in all forms, right? It’s the season of cleanses, closet-cleaning, clutter- fixers, new diets, and in general detoxing. And I’m not mad at it- of course to your own level and need, I like the ideas of stripping things down and only adding back to your life the things that you truly want and need.  Again, I’m not just talking about juice.

I am drinking more juice- I try to eat moderately and clean throughout the year but after the holidays, it’s nice to reset my diet. I’m cleaning out my closets- eliminating things that I don’t love or wear, making space for things I will. But more than that, I’m trying to sit still some- to look at my life, stripped down and making sure that the things I add into it are only the things that I love or need. You can call it mindful or focused, use the word detox, but I’m making a  conscious effort to take this time of “stripping down” and making sure that the building back up results in a life I’m in love with.

No form of detox is easy- there are scary questions  like: what do I want my life to look like? Where do I want to be? What do I need to do to get there? The answers aren’t always easy- but they aren’t always awful. Like that green juice, I’m taking this time to enjoy doing things that are good for me.

I’d love to know: are you detoxing (in any form)? What are you letting go of?

Wishing us all a week of easy letting go and amazing shoes!! XO RA

NYE: Champagne Cocktails!

Happy New Years Eve! I hope tonight is a blast–even if it’s just you in your jammies watching football! I hope that if you do go out you’re safe (make sure to get a DD!). And that most of all you spend the evening doing something that makes you happy with people you love! As a special treat we have a guest post! One of my dearest friends, Jason Ruth: food and drink specialist, is here to share some amazing champagne cocktails with us! His site My Glass Kitchen will be launching later in January and for now you can find him on Instagram @JasonCRuth –I hope you enjoy his recipes as much as I do!
Happy 2016! XO RA

How will you be ringing in 2016? Quietly at home, possibly at a small party with friends, or perhaps you will be at a large, formal party. Whatever way you are ringing in the New Year, I bet you will be doing so with a glass of the bubbly. Sparkling wine or Champagne has become the tradition for ringing in the New Year. Instead of just ringing in the New Year with a glass of Champagne, let’s dress it up a little and make a champagne cocktail.

Before we get into champagne cocktails, let’s first discuss what Champagne is and how to buy it. Champagne is a sparkling wine that is fermented once outside the bottle and then fermented a second time inside the same bottle that you purchase. All Champagne must come from the Champagne region of France in order to be considered Champagne. This often helps drive the price of Champagne up. Luckily, there are alternatives that are a bit cheaper.:Cava from Spain, or Franciacorta from Italy are often cheaper buys that are created in the same method as Champagne. There are also excellent versions from America, just look on the bottle for “method champenoise”. This means that the sparkling wine was created in the same method as in Champagne, France.

Traditionally, the champagne cocktail is a simple drink and should only be made with a Brut Champagne (dry). These cocktails typically consist of a sugar cube, 3 dashes of bitters and Champagne. Another common champagne cocktail is a scoop of sorbet and champagne. However, you can also add other liquors to champagne to create depth to your cocktail. Here are 3 tried and true favorites:

image

Red Velvet

4 oz. chilled Champagne
½ oz. Chambord
2 oz. Pomegranate juice
2 dashes Raspberry Bitters
2 raspberries
1 rosemary sprig

In a flute glass, add Chambord and Pomegranate juice and stir. Fill the glass with Champagne and add 2 dashes of bitters. Garnish with 2 raspberries poked with the rosemary sprig.

The Celebration

1 oz. St. Germain Liqueur
1 oz. Cointreau
1 sugar cube
3 dashes of Peach Bitters
Champagne
Cinnamon sugar

Take your flute glass and moisten the edge of the glass. Dip the rim in cinnamon sugar. In the flute, add your sugar cube, Cointreau and St. Germain then stir. Top off with Champagne and add 3 dashes of bitters.

The Irish Welcoming

1 oz. Irish Whiskey
¼ oz. Chartreuse
½ oz. simple syrup
Chilled Champagne
1 lemon twist

In a flute glass, add in Irish Whiskey, Chartreuse and simple syrup. Fill the flute with Champagne and garnish with a lemon twist.

Enjoy! Jason
