iFundWomen

Loves, out IFundWomen campaign is nearing a close. If you’ve given, we greatly appreciate it! If not–there’s still time. Some real talk? We’re not going to reach our goal, but we’re not apologizing for dreaming big. We’ve learned a lot, and we’re still excited about where we’re headed. It would be so much to us, in the last push for this fund raising if you would read, share, give. We’re in this together, but there’s no one we’d rather be on a team with!

Loves, I’m so excited to announce that Investment Piece is being featured on iFundWomen (an amazing crowd funding and mentoring site for women -owned businesses to get funding for their projects). I’m completely honored to be featured, and am excited to be a part of it! The link where you can see our project (and donate, if you are so moved) is here .

Loves, can we be honest? Money is a hard thing to talk about. Writing this post, in any way, shape or form asking for money makes my stomach hurt and kinda makes me want to drink a lot of wine. Investment Piece is a passion of mine, and the community we’re building here is a true joy. We’re going so fast (your likes, shares, shopping through me mean more to me than I can say), but some of the projects we want to bring you need funding. So we’re on iFundWomen. The career ambitions I’ve had in my life have been: Miss Piggy, a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, an Actress, and to share my Fashion with you. I think the first two are a wash, but I am so grateful that I get to work at the last two every day.

If you are moved to give or would be willing to share with those that may give, I would be so grateful.

Here’s to building amazing projects together and, of course, amazing shoes! XO RA

Sunday Chronicles: Being You (in a Wig)

Investment Piece: Being You (in a Wig)

Be You. It’s the most cliche, most true, most repeated advice. Being you is both amazing, and diffult. Yes, let’s all be all of who we are, but real talk? Being you is complicated, sometimes messy, and often takes years. My relationship with myself is still evolving, but I know it’s taken me time to really get to know me, to like me, to be comfortable with me, and to be willing to share me with the world. I truly believe that things can fall into place and are better when you’re “being you”, but I don’t believe that it’s as easy as advice makes it seem.

This isn’t a post about being yourself though. It’s about how a wig party allowed me to be myself, and what I discovered. More real talk? We all have multiple sides and complexities; it is one of the most amazing things about us. I had a friend who threw a “Wig” party for her birthday. I was excited to go and support her fun; but had it in my head that I wasn’t a “wig person”. Then came this sassy number. Would I ever cut my hair short and dye it purple? Highly doubtful, as getting to where I love my own hair has been a journey all to itself (read about that here). But this wig, it was love at first site. Not me, but it fit me so perfectly! And while I think I know myself pretty well, every time I wear it I feel a tad more sassy and a tad more free. Is it possible that the wig is a way of being me?

(You can see the look that I styled around this wig and freedom here)
Investment Piece: Freedom

A lesson that I keep learning is that we are so much more than we think. There are different sides to us, all worth loving; and our potentional for growth is amazing. It continues to amaze me what sides of us appear when we need them. Did I know that I would sometimes need the sassy side of me that this wig brings out? No. But she’s hear, and I think she’s pretty awesome.

This week let’s be ourselves. Let’s spend some time and figure out what that means. Let’s spend some time loving ourselves, spend some time around people who love us, and let’s let that love fill our space. Go be you, and if you need a wig, let’s go get one!

Wishing us all a week of being you and amazing shoes! XO RA

Investment Piece: Look a Like

There’s a certain excitement with every changing of the season: to see what’s coming, to make a list of what you want, to go get it. New is always fun, and I just adore the process of preparing for the new season and finding my place (or non-place) in the trends. (My thoughts on trends here). This season? I got a great surprise when I realized that something new was a look-a-like to something I already had!

Investment Piece: Look a Like

On the left is a dress/campaign from Delpozo (found on Pintrest! You can follow me there @racheladelicia), and on the right is me in a look a like dress I have from Three Floor, that I’ve had for years! The great news: I’m already on trend, and couldn’t resist shooting my piece in the Delpozo style. I just love the play of pink and nude in both dresses, and the pleats! The movement on my dress is amazing, and I can only imagine that the Delpozo dress is just as fun to twirl in!

I love the new season from Delpozo, their colors are bold and fun, the clothes have movement and personality. But the lesson? Keep things you love, they will come back (and maybe even clear up some budget room for more new things!). Also, if you love something that’s a tad bit out of your price range, and we’ve all been there, that there is a way to get the feeling of the piece you’re coveting. This is where I’m really honest and let you know I’m not the biggest fan of dupes (yes, that’s a post to itself, and yes, I believe in influence, I just have mixed feelings on straight knock-offs), but I think that there’s always an option at every price point for all the amazing fashion out there. There’s a look a like for you, I promise!

What surprises have you found as we prepare for the new season? What look a likes do you love?

Below I’ve linked not only some Delpozo, but also some similar items at all price points!

Love Ossie Clark? Valentino? Dior? Stunning 20s dresses? Timeless Vixen has them in spades for you! This is the part where I’m supposed to wax poetic about her collection (completely drool worthy)  I’ve been a fan of Lauren, the owner and stylist of Timeless Vixen, for years. But loves, as much I love the collection at Timeless Vixen (and I do!), the best part about Lauren is her expert knowledge of vintage fashion. Have a question about a designer or period in fashion? Lauren has an answer, and most likely a dress. Have a question about how to tell if an item is authentic? Lauren can educate you on labels, zippers, what to look for in pictures, and can probably lead you to an authentic item. Yes, the collection is exquisite; but when you come stay for the incredible fashion education you can get from the Timeless Vixen!

About now, you may be wondering how you can get your hands on the stunning collection of the Timeless Vixen. This is where good news gets great! One of the best parts of my job is getting to play dress up. Another part is getting to know amazing women, and shopping their clothes! One of my faves, and must shops in LA? Elaine Kim (read all about our love fest here). And recently, I got a chance to be styled by in house stylist Sydney (check out her stunning jewelry on Instagram at @aireheartsydney, you’ll love it!) in the most amazing transitional summer pieces at Elaine Kim!

We chatted yesterday about August being a great time for sales, and it is! But let’s be honest, as we look for deals, we’re also looking for pieces to take us through Labor Day and into the fall! And here are some of my faves! Think silk camis and mini dresses (both the white and pink looks) that are perfect on their own for the summer; and will be amazing as layering pieces into winter. In the same looks are the most perfectly just slouchy enough silk blended pants, and yes maybe you want to leave white to summer, these pants are light enough for right now, and yet will work in the fall. Then, let’s talk jackets! I’m just in love with this pink linen trench coat; perfect for the end of summer and the beginning of fall! And this peforated leather coat! Places to wear that: summer nights, fall afternoons, layered over sweaters in the winter. I just love it!

But loves, the most transitional pieces might be the grey silk shirt, drop crotch pants, boots, and this yummy denim jumpsuit:

And we haven’t even talked about the shoes! Booties! Those mules!

At this point, you must be asking yourself: with every single piece being amazing and taking me through fall, what should I buy? Loves, I think the answer is buy it all!

There’s not a lot that I love more than a great juxatipositon-fashion in the wild, the unexpected, the things that make you look twice. This is not the first time you’ve heard this, and if you’ve been paying attention at all (7-11 shoot, Laundry Mat shoot, and Gone Fishing Shoot) you know that I love to shoot them. I get my inspiration from everywhere, but it should come as no surprise that when I saw this picture:

EXCLUSIVE: Lady Gaga maintains her personal style during a hike in the woods with her new boyfriend Christian Carino; rocking a black crop top and tan pumps during the walk while on vacation in Montauk, New York.

I knew I had to recreate it! So, I did!

Loves, in all honesty, if a great hike is what you’re after, don’t wear your heels. I’m a big heel wear-er. I wear them everywhere. Up and down hills in the dirt on a hike is just not the best place for them. That was the only glitch though! This amazing maxi didn’t get in my way. This custom crop from my love AAVintedge (read about her here) was actually a great choice, little support, but kept me cool. Yet, even with the heels sinking, I had a great time. This hike happened on my epic family vacation to Colorado. There was a little hike trail right behind our hotel, and I had my gear!

This look would also be great for dinners, parties, and the like. Or, you could seperate the pieces and you would have a thousand great looks! And though people might stare, this look is hike perfect!!

Hope your Monday is full of all sorts of amazing juxatipositons!

Fashion in the Wild: Dresssing Rooms

Fashion Happens in the craziest places. This isn’t a post about that, this is a post about what goes on in the dressing room. We’ve all been there: you try something on, you fall in love, you hate it, you pose, you twirl, you strut. Not all of this fashion gets to come home with us, or out in the wild with us, but does that make it any less important?

I’ve spent the past few weeks in and out of dressing rooms. I’ve made a little video of my favorite pictures, stay tuned to see what I got!
