I read a few months ago that a sequined skirt was a must have for this season, and while I normally don’t always believe in things that I “have” to do/have, this time they were right. I got this little number from Beehive Boutique and while it is sequined, it’s become a neutral in my closet. I love the flirting hem, but love that the color isn’t over the top. I love that it goes great with graphic tees, but feels festive. I love that the sleeves on this sweater mimic the slight mermaid hem. And I love the pop of blue. I may also need a thesaurus, but loves, outfits that make me happy, and that feel like the holidays are easy to fall in love with.

Do you have a sequin skirt? What are you wearing it with?

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your table and heart are full. I hope loved ones near and far know how much you care, and I hope you let them know how much you care for them. I hope your football/cooking/shopping goes well, and that the left overs are even better than the meal. Hostess Gifts

Investment Piece, Fashion Blogger, Hostess Gifts, CA, TX

Thus it begins. The holiday season is here and you may already be a guest–for a visit, or to dinner. So what do you bring for hostess gifts? Being a southern lady, I just can’t bring myself to show up empty handed, so while some will tell you that it’s not needed, I think it’s a lovely gesture (and my Mimi would tell you to send a hand-written thank you note afterwards as well!) So, what to bring? There’s always wine, flowers (a nice touch, put them in a vase a la Cupcakes and Cashmere), or a plant. But if you have the time, I love some of the following out of the box ideas!

Although, for the record, you can always bring me wine! XO RA

Match sets are a secret of any wardrobe. You can use the pieces alone (this skirt with any top from graphic to plain, this top with just about anything), but I love them as a set. They have a vintage feel, but look modern. Perfect for holidays (Thanksgiving dinners?) and yet don’t have to be fancy (would love this with Addias). And the best part? It’s an easy outfit, you don’t have to overthink, worry about matching; you can put on and go! And that’s a win in my book!

Sunday Chronicles: Red boots and Sass

Investment Piece, Sunday Chronicles, Red boots, Sass, fashion blogger, CA, TX

We change as we grow older, but in many ways we stay the same. I’ve always had my fair share of sass (ok, more than my fair share), and if you look at some of the graphic shirts I love, that hasn’t changed much. I’ve had a fashion sense, and loved outfit styling from a young age, something that has stayed constant. And I’ve always been adamant that I will wear what I want–no matter what. My mom loves to tell the story of how, as a 1.5 year old, in the middle of winter, I wanted to wear my purple leotard out. I did. And I made my mom carry the two back up outfits and coat for me. Again, in some ways I haven’t changed that much (though I tend to wear a bit more than a leotard now, I am a fan of back up outfits). I was, and can be, stubborn and sassy (in both amazing and perhaps not so amazing ways). But more than the leotard story, what has always been the image of my “sass” are my red boots.

I had many pairs of red boots as a kid, and I loved them! (Different story, I’m a firm believer that all women need red shoes, Dorothy taught us that, but let’s chat about that later!) Red boots made me feel powerful, fun, and I worked them with everything –skirts, shorts, jeans, even leotards. Without me saying a word, they let the world know that I was there, and not afraid to be seen. And if the world didn’t pay attention I was more than willing to stomp those red boots to get my point across. Part talisman, part statement, I loved the way the boots made me feel, and how they looked. They gave me permission to be myself, sass and all.

While I currently don’t own red boots, I like to think that I wear what they gave me–confidence. They were a safe way to stand out and be heard. I love fashion, clearly always have, and while the way fashion looks can be breathtaking, the most important part of fashion is how it makes you feel. And we all deserve a piece that brings out our sass, in the best ways. Recently, I gave a little girl in my life a pair of red boots. Because they were darling and perfect. I hope she loves them–but more importantly I hope that she takes the red boots to heart, and isn’t afraid to hide her sass.

Wishing us all a week of sass and amazing shoes! XO

If you know me well, you will get that this dress is just perfect for me. It’s purple, which allows me to show my TCU purple pride (every Friday with #GoPurpleFriday, if you see me, I promise I got purple on!). It’s Vintage Mary McFadden and the pleats, the drape, the ionic-ness I can’t help but love. I had it altered, if you read yesterday you know that it was originally too tight in the bust, my tailor rebuilt the middle piece for a perfect fit. I love that it’s cocktail appropriate, but a bit fun. It’s just perfect.

Happy #GoPurpleFriday, whatever your color might be!

One of the hottest trends for next season is supposed to be one-shoulder; but loves, I can’t resist starting to play with this look now! I love the way it’s slightly sexy, elegant, and here (when paired with wide leg chinos) is just slightly edgy. And these pants! The wide leg is super comfy, yet polished enough to pair with blouses, sweaters, heels. I love this pairing of wide and tight, but also love playing with proportions (these pants and a big shirt and belt would be amazing!) This top would also pair well with a pencil skirt, a ball skirt, and jeans. And while I can never resist thinking of different ways to wear all the pieces in an outfit, I have to say I love this one! Slightly sporty, sleek, and super comfy!

Happy Wednesday! XO RA

Holiday Looks

It’s coming– holiday dinners, parties, drinks, festivities. And all the outfits that go along with these events! First up: Thanksgiving. Last year I presented this guide for Thanksgiving dressing, based on what type of event you’re attending. There’s a “formal” dinner, where you can’t go wrong with a dress in heels, the mid level where a skirt/jumpsuit/nice jeans and blouse will do, and the casual where you can wear sweatpants.

Don’t knock it. A girlfriend of mine used to host “Sweatpants Thanksgiving”, and let’s not rule out “nice” sweatpants and a top for your day of eating! Shop some of the looks that I think could get you through next week below!

Loves, as you may know, I have a thing for vintage YSL (see here and here) and you may recognize this outfit from FWLA (here and here). I couldn’t resist showing you all the details–this outfit has not only become a go to (it’s super easy, sophisticated and comfortable) for dinners, events and meetings; I’m a fan of the pieces seperately (pants with a graphic tee or blouse, the top forward/backwards, over dresses, with jeans, even thrown over leggings at the gym). And details–the slits in the pants to keep them interesting, the velvet dots on and bow on the top. And the top! So it’s actually a jacket (the slit and bow are supposed to go in the front), but I’ve fallen in love with wearing it backwards, though it makes a great jacket! This outfit in my back pocket for the holidays is making this Monday a little easier!
