Gone Fishing…..I caught shoes!!

I’ve shared a lot with you about my family road trip (and we have a couple more shoots from that-and they might be my favorite). This was an idea that we had on vacation, that didn’t come to pass, but I couldn’t resist creating it: Gone Fishing. We know that I love juxatipositons, editorial shoots, and all things fashion in non-“fashion” settings, so it flows that a shoot in high end vintage of me fishing would be something I would love!

Let’s be honest, fishing can be like shopping. You have to plan (budget), set aside time (or go online), be patient, and hopefully you catch what you wanted! While the original plan was to shoot me in heels fly fishing, we couldn’t make that work in Colorado; so instead it was me, a fishing pole made out of stick and twine, and a river. Things didn’t go to plan, but the good news? I caught Gucci, so all’s well that ends well!

Some notes: I spent the planning period of this shoot calling a fishing pole a fishing stick, maybe I should stick to shopping.
Also: if you know of a lake/river/ocean where I can catch Gucci please let me know ASAP.

As for fashion: I’m a firm believer that you can wear what you like where you like it; yes, I’m the woman high-fiving the kids in tutus in the grocery store. And this outfit! This top is vintage YSL (circa the 70s, early 80s). I love the puff sleeves and the lace up detail. I wear it with jeans, skirts, tuxedo pants, it’s the perfect boho glam piece. Every one needs a great black maxi skirt in their lives (if you don’t have one, I got you covered), and these shoes! Gucci. That color. That heel.

I hope that you’re out catching whatever makes your heart happy! Shop my picks below!

Loves!! Have you ever heard of Cadillac Ranch?? It’s an art installation on the side of the road out in north Texas. Starting in 1974, Chip Lord, Doug Michels, and Hudson Marquez began burying Cadillac cars in the ground. In the 1980s people began spray painting them (there’s a store near the site where you can buy spray paint if you want to!). Literally, this is a field off the highway, you can read more about it here.

This was one of the most fun, spontaneous, and hard to stage shoots I’ve done (and I shot a cocktail dress on a paddle board!). My family and I knew that we would be driving by, and luckily I had a dress for that in the car (more on that….). We didn’t plan the shoot, we couldn’t help that there were a ton of other people around, we couldn’t help what time we got there. But loves! What a fun background! What a statement! What a shoot!

And this dress! It’s Zara. I bought it because I love the Missioni, vintage vibes, and it hasn’t failed me yet! I wore it on my family road trip, in front of cars, with or without a belt, to a wig party, and to brunch. It doesn’t need much help, though I love it with the gold belt and sandals. It goes with heels and flats, and will be perfect all the way through fall. And how great does it go with these cars?

This shoot at Cadillac Ranch was everything I love about fashion, art, and shoots. Completely fun, a little out there, a little off the cuff, and in the end-perfect!

I hope that you have a great weekend! You can shop my picks below!

Loves! I have a confession: I ordered these “Product of a Strong Female” for my mom and sister as well. The thought was that, on our epic family road trip, we could all wear them and photograph them. Well, the mail got in the way of that, as they didn’t come before our trip, but during our trip (Murphy’s Law). The good news? Now they’re here! And in the theme of yesterday’s “Fashion Gives Back” it’s a chic shirt, with a strong message, that gives back. This shirt was available on Omaze, and this shirt gave back to Baby2Baby. Unfortunately, this campaign has ended, if you want information about Baby2Baby and how you can support this group that helps women and kids, you can read all about them and get involved here.

Let’s talk about Strong Females, shall we? Because these shorts are some of my fave, I love these mules (ironically I just found out that my great-grandma, a badass in her own right, loved heeled mules, so I love these more), the scarf around the ankle with a brooch (I copied the brooch and bandana from a friend, and another friend has been rocking an ankle/leg bandana, I have a friend who sells amazing vintage jewelry), and these earrings (made by another badass female). And then, there’s my mom–a strong female who raised me to be confident and fearless while remaining a lady. I am surrounded by amazing women, and I am so grateful for it!

In fashion news: I love a great staple outfit that can go anywhere in the summer. This combo (classy shorts and a graphic tee) is one to keep in your pocket. And if you happen to celebrat the strong females who made you while you’re rocking it? Rock on!

These earrings are Cassandra Collections (Instagram @cassandrascollections), and my gal Bloomers and Frocks (@bloomersandfrocks) usually has a selection of articulated brooches.

In my humble opinion, Summer is sweeter by the water (lakes, rivers, pools, the ocean). And life, in general, is so much more interesting when we let go and dive in. (Yes, diving in is hard, no, don’t worry, this isn’t an inspirational post. Though great “diving in” clothes” inspire me!) Between my love of all things vintage and all things water, I couldn’t resist this Jcrew sweater with vintage divers printed on it! It’s light weight enough so you don’t die of heat stroke, but still keeps you warm on cool summer nights!

And these pants! These are from Outdoor Voices (you can read about my experience with them here), and these pants are quickly becoming one of my fave go-to’s. The texture really elevates them, and I’m obsessed with this color~ I’ve worn them as a bathing suit cover up and with heels and a “going out top”. They fit impeccably, and you need a pair!

While it might be expected, we couldn’t resist shooting this look on the road during my recent family vacation. Yes, you are looking at the indoor pool of a hotel in the middle of no-where, where we stopped for the night. (Side note-it was a great hotel! And the pool was heated!) I scared my mom a little when I pretended to dive in, there were some shots I made her take over and over again, but we had a good time! (And yes, I really wore this outfit to hang out at the pool!)

It’s Monday. Let’s dive in, shall we??

Loves! Holiday weeks are hard. Not that I don’t love a great holiday (my 4th was great-really low key, how was yours?), but the buildup and the come down can be really difficult. To add to my struggle, I got home from a family vacation on Sunday, worked out really hard Monday-Wednesday, have spent my time trying to get things together, and start traveling again on Wednesday (between my cities). I’m dragging. I’m not on my A game. I apologize now.

What’s helping? Looking at pics from my trip! Loves! Those Views! We went to Colorado Springs, and the natural beauty was above and beyond anything I was expecting (and anything I could put together!). Just the views along make me swoon. The even better news? This outfit is pretty swoon worthy itself (those views)!

These Jcrew pants go with everything (don’t you love the green colors?), this one shoulder top is perfect for casual affairs, but lends itself to a special something. And the details! Hat, bag (vintage from my family= super special), and my go-to in the summer (Dr Scholl’s). This outfit took me from swoon worthy views in the am to a great lunch to drinks by the pool (and then the fire) at night. Talk about adaptable!

I hope that your holiday was amazing, I hope that you’re excited for the rest of your summer, I hope that I get more energy!

Laundry Mat

Loves, there is something I just love about a great juxatipositon, about wearing unexpected things unexpected places, about editorial looks, and about glamming up our every day lives. So doesn’t it make sense that I would shoot in a laundry mat? The colors, the sound, the smell–there’s so much life in them; and let’s be honest they’re all about fashion! (You have to clean your clothes!) And while you could probably get away with wearing your pjs to the laundry mat, why wouldn’t you look your best?

I love that this look is a slight nod to Americana. The top is vintage, the red/blue/white/sheer is to die for, and while I liked the look of it over a white bralette, it would go just as great over a slip dress, tank, camisole, t-shirt, or even a swimsuit! You can’t get more classic than a pencil skirt, and the white just makes it pop! The shoes are a fave–the clear heel!

Investment Piece: Laundry Mat

This look as is would be great for summer cocktails, and with a quick change to a tank top it would be great for office work. But it’s me, and so it went great with the laundry mat. Surprisingly, no stares, no big reactions. There are times when I’m planning shoots, or my day, and think: “what if this outfit is too big?” Well, like Oscar Wilde said: you can’t really be overdressed; and I’ve found that a little confidence (even faked) and a love of juxatipositon gets you far!

This post was first featured about a year ago–time flies when you look amazing! And I couldn’t help but repost it today (mainly as I wore it again, and remembered how much I love it)! This off the shoulder top is one of my go-to’s, these are some of my fave white pants, and the earrings are still a fave! This is what I originally said:

Off the Shoulder is having a moment–and I absolutely love this version of it. The ruffled sleeves and wrap waist just feel fun–and the earrings help in that department! I’ve worn with top with skirts, jeans, cut-offs–but loved the juxtaposition of the white pants and the colors of the food trucks! And these earrings–I wear them with everything!

Happy Monday! XO RA

Stripes: All American Classic, perfect for that upcoming holiday, and anything but boring. Case in point? This stripe swing dress. The puff sleeve, the button up, the stripe: nothing that can steer you wrong here. And the great thing? It can go with so many things: heels, wedges, flats, and sneakers. Here I loved adding a bit of fringe for drama! And did you notice that the wedges have a stripe too? I couldn’t resist!

The great thing about a shirt dress is that it’s completely versatile. You can dress it up or down, can go from the office to happy hour, and this version in cotton makes it perfect for summer. I’m partial to the vertical stripes, but really any shirt dress can give you this look: classic white could be great, as well as chambray, or even polka dots! These wedges (beside having the cutest stripe) are plastic! The great part about that means that if you happen to get them dirty, they are super easy to clean; and believe it or not, very comfy! This bag, which is almost an accessory and a half) is a few seasons old, but I just adore it! It adds a littl pop to everything!

I’m thinking of wearing this number for the 4th! I love that it’s color appropriate but not over the top. What do you think?

There are some pieces that I just love not matter what: and overalls are one of them. Weird? Maybe. I love that overalls are the original jumpsuit, that they go great over swimsuits, that overalls can be dressed up or down. I fell in love with these Madewelloveralls on Instagram when a friend posted them shown with a blazer. I loved that they kept the “integrity” of overalls but added an edge–I love the skinny leg and the drop hem! These would look great with any tee, shirt, sweater, with a blazer –and heels or flats!

You can see other overalls I’ve loved here, here, and here.

And loves: these details! I love the juxatipositon of the button up with the overalls, and especially love the flare of the French Cuff. And the monogram–it doesn’t get any better! (You can see that shirt here). And the plaid shoes: so Summer, so classic, so fun!

I’ve worn this outfit to summer meetings and to happy hour!

Loves, as it’s #TBT , and I’ve had this outfit on my mind, I couldn’t resist reposting this. I still love this outfit as much as I did last year–and still wear it! I’ve updated the shopping links, so you can get your shopping on! Happy Thursday!

I have avoided the blazer/shorts combo for years. Partially out of fear that it was the “fashion mullet”, business on top, party on bottom. Partially as I love a good sundress. However, this combo slowly won me over. Here is my caveat: I think shoes are important, wearing flip flops is a no-no, they need to elevate the outfit. Other than that, I say let’s have fun! I know there are matched sets out there, which I love, and I love the idea of making a set; but I also love the juxtaposition of this outfit. The classic and the destroyed. I stayed cool (and oh my is it hot!) and yet felt pulled together for meetings. The perfect #summersuit. Oh, and we”re gonna talk about this ClareV bag- it’s one of my faves (and I have it in 3 colors)
