Trend to Try: Kitten Heel Boots

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Kitten Heel Boots

A trend that I’m loving for fall? Kitten heel boots. Not flat, not heeled. Perfectly in the middle.
And perfect with jeans, skirts, dresses, and all of our fall fashions. The kitten heel is just so chic, and on a boot a little bit of a juxtaposition, and we all know how much I love those!

I may or may not have ordered a pair of kitten heel boots this weekend, and I can’t wait to style them. Below, I’ve linked boots that I love. Are you trying out kitten heel boots this fall? Tell me all about it!

Fall Mood. Fall Trends

It’s abou that time, my loves. Fall is going to officially be here next week, and I’m excited to dive into all the fall trends that are on deck for us. But more than trends, I’m thinking about my fall moods. A bit about how I approach fall moods, and what trends I’m looking forward to:

Investment Piece: Fall Mood. Fall trends

In short? I’m excited about fall. The trends, the feeling, the change. As I mentioned in my video, while I’m thinking about trends (my favorites are suiting, leather, and the classic/bougie pieces), I’m planning on moods. I love the ideas of mixing bright colors with classic pieces. Being slightly rock and roll one day, and very preppy the next. I tend to collect images-some part Wishlist, some outfit inspiration, some just a mood I’d like to play with. The trends for this fall are fun to play with, and full of investment pieces. Above are some moods I’m thinking about for fall, from pieces I want to have to airs I want to give off. I’ll be adding to this list, and of course buying, and seeing where the season takes us.

What fall trends are you excited about? What mood are you going for?

Below I’ve linked some fall trend pieces that I love- mainly suiting and leather! Of course, what I buy for fall will be updated too! Shop my picks and let me know what your fall fashion thoughts are!

Suiting
Yes, a trend, but also a classic. Don’t hesitate to invest here!

Plaid
A fall staple, but these new talked on the pattern are too amazing to ignore!

Leather
I’m dreaming of one of these leather dresses!

Trend to Try: Puff Sleeves

Puff Sleeves. You can file this under things that aren’t quite a trend (even some of my picks are vintage, and puff sleeves are a very 1930s thing), but are having a moment. Loves, I am a big believer if that something we love is having a moment we join in. So, puff sleeves.

Investment Piece: Trend to Try Puff Sleeves

While I was making my summer Wishlist (a never ending process TBH), puff sleeves kept catching my eye. From tops to dresses, it seems that they are everywhere. And with good reason!
-A statement sleeve is an easy way to make any outfit pop
-They look good on everyone
-With so many options, there is a puff sleeve for every look and budget

Investment Piece: Trend to Try Puff Sleeve
I personally like my puff sleeves a little bold, but there are subtle puff sleeves. You can get them on tops, maxi dresses, mini dresses, sweaters, and even jackets. Puff sleeves can be perfect for parties and bbqs and all the summer things, as well as on a t-shirt running to Target.

In all my searching, I couldn’t find a puff sleeve that I didn’t like. I think the only question is: where are you wearing your puff sleeves?

These tops were some of my favorites:

And, again, more options here.

What are your favorite? How do you wear it?
I would love to know!

Happy puff sleeve shopping!

Trend to Try: Spring Suits

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Spring Suits

I love a good suit. There’s something so classic and ever so subtly sexy about them. It’s a power move, but can also be fun. And the great news? Springs are on trend this spring. So if you’ve never dared to venture into the world of suits, now might be your time!

The trend I think you should try: spring suits!

JCrew, Gucci, high fashion, blogger, InvestmentPiece, ft worth, TX, CA, lookbook
From colors to patterns to various cuts, no matter your style there’s a spring suit for you.

Some of my favorites:
Color
Pinks, reds, yellow. While I love a classic black or white suit, there is something so chic about wearing a suit of a different color.
Pattern
Snakeskin. Leopard. Stripes. Polka Dots. Just because it’s a suit doesn’t mean you can’t let your personality shine.
Fit
Surprisingly, I love the oversized look. Now, I think tailoring is an art and there’s always a space for it. However, spring suits that are a bit oversized are really drawing my eye.

My favorite ways to wear them?

Belted
Dare to wear the blazer as your top and put a belt over it. In general, dare to wear your blazer as a top!
With a band tee
Business meets rock and roll in the best way!
Casual
Don’t be afraid to pair your suit with sneakers or more casual components! It’s a fresh take for spring.

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Spring Suit

My suit picks? I’m glad you asked! I’ve linked several suit, and suiting pieces, I love below. Yes, if you’re really wanting to make an investment, a suit is a great place to start. The aforementioned tailoring is worth every penny you can spend on it. On a budget? We all are! Buy the best that you can afford, but there are great options at JCrew, Topshop, Target, etc! And if you really love suits, considering buying vintage. For the most bang for your buck, you can’t beat a great vintage suits!

I really love the suit selection at JCrew, especially the pink one!

Investment Piece: Trend to try spring suits
I love patterns and all of Anine Bing!

You could also make your own suit. Pair any blazer and pant you like, or buy seperately, and wear them together as a suit. I’ve linked similar to the ones I paired here

I would love to know: how are you suiting up this spring?

Spring Trends to buy Vintage

With every season there are the new offerings, and the temptation to buy all new things. I love the cycle–but staying on trend doesn’t mean that you have to buy all new. What if I told you that there was a way to stay on trend AND shop resale/vintage? Shopping vintage was one of the first ways I was able to buy brands I loved at prices I could afford. And shopping vintage opened up a whole new world for me.

There are several reasons to love vintage: price, quality, style. I’m a huge fan of mixing old and new. And there are times when old is new–what’s the saying everything comes back around? This season there are some amazing trends to play with, and some of these spring trends are best bought vintage. From logos to costume jewelry, buying vintage can get you what you want (seriously, some of the vintage logos are EXACTLY like to the new offerings), and save a bit (to buy more of course!).

These are the items that are on trend but you should be buying vintage this spring:

Logos
From bags to clothing, designer logos are in–and vintage. Buying these pieces vintage not only allows you to get pieces at a fraction of the cost of new, some of the vintage offerings are identical to what went down the runways. Here are some of my picks:

Shoulder Pads
Love them or hate them, a strong shoulder is “in” for Spring. I went through a period where I HATED this look, but I have to admit, I now kinda love it. My styling tip? Less is more and use the shape to make your waist look tiny. Also, stick to colora and patterns that you love, a strong silhouette is not the time to try a pattern you’re on the fence about! Here are some of my picks:

Top Handle Bags
Ladylike and a great investment, this a trend that you should ONLY buy vintage. Why? You can get quality bags that are stunning for less than $35. Here are some of my picks:

Lace
Vintage lace is often hand made versus machine made, making it higher quality. There are so many ways to get vintage lace (dealers sometimes sell it by the yard), but there are so many dresses, tops, and skirts out there at amazing prices, this spring trend is too good to pass up! Here are my picks:

Costume Jewelry
From pearls to gold chains, vintage costume jewelry is a higher quality and better made than much of modern jewelry today. Even faux pieces were often gold plated, and could pass for real! Here are some of my picks:

I’d love to know: what are your go-to vintage buys? And do you buy new trends vintage? What about these spring trends?

Fall 2018 Trends

Loves! It’s mid-September, does it feel like fall yet?

For me? Not quite. Maybe that’s due to the fact that it’s still hot outside, maybe it’s because I’m still processing the fall trends and deciding what I love! (Because CLEARLY fall doesn’t start until we shop for the season).

Here’s the thing: the list below of trends that are presented to you this fall 2018 is by no means final. There are other lists and other trends, take from each what you love. Yes, some trends are call backs from years past (everything comes back), which can be a great excuse to splurge on accessories to update your look. Trends are not the only fall offerings, there will be classic updates, new takes on things, and good pieces that don’t fall into a “trend” category. Take from those what you love.

I’m a big fan of us mixing trends and classics, new and old, and things we love to tell our stories with fashion. These are just a few of the trends and stories you’ll be seeing on me in fall 2018.

Note: This post does contain affiliate links. While I may earn commission from them, that does not affect the price for you. Thank you for your support!

Power Suits
Jcrew, Gucci, high fashion, blogger, InvestmentPiece, Ft Worth, TX, CA, look book

I’m excited about this because I love me a good suit. Chic, elegant, powerful, and customizable, what’s not to love? From bold colors to patterns to details, there’s a suit for everyone. My take? Don’t be afraid to wear the blazer as a top or pair it with a graphic tee. Suits also good great with sneakers!

(Related to this trend is tailoring, but I’m not calling that a trend. I’ll just say that great tailoring makes you look great and you should embrace it at every opprotunty)

Here are some of my suit picks:

Boots
This may be a time when you’re asking yourself: “How can boots, a fall and winter staple, be a trend?”
Loves, have you seen this season’s boots? Fall 2018 gives us everything from combat to western inspired, to cut outs and more. From ankle boots to over the knee, you can get your staples and your trends!
Some of my favorites:

Leather
Investment Piece: Fall 2018 Trends

From accents to outfits, leather is in (was it ever out?). I’m such a fan of great leather pants, skirts, dresses, and jackets. From matte to patent, I don’t think there’s a “wrong” way to wear leather. And I love it when we take something like a leather jacket and wear it in an unexpected way (like a dress).
Here are some of my leather picks:

(Note: this is a great trend to buy in vintage pieces or resale to keep your budget on trend, too!)

Patterns

Again, maybe not the newest trend around, but Fall 2018 offers us patterns in the most luxourious sense of the word. From houndstooth to plaid, from silk to wool, I’m thrilled to not only wear these patterns, but to mix them!
Some of my picks:

Are these trends the only things I’m loving? Nope! There’s so much more, but this is my jumping off point for my Fall 2018 trend shopping.
Bonus/Street Style Pieces that are hot (and I’m loving)right now: neon, prairie dresses, 90s, Peacock colors (blues and greens), all day sequins, sneakers, and more.

I’d love to know: what trends are you looking to add to your story this season?

Trend to Try: Vinyl Shoes

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Vinyl Shoes

This is one of those trends to try that I haven’t tried yet. But I’m dying to! You may be seeing vinyl shoes all over your shopping feeds. It feels like there are vinyl shoes offerings from almost every brand and at every price point. They are the new nude shoes. And for good reason.

The vinyl shoe elongate every leg-and the illusion of “nothing” gives an air of sexiness that’s perfect for summer. There’s nothing this trend to try doesn’t go with-skirts, shorts, jeans.

I can’t help but think that they’re a grown up version of the jelly shoes that I loved as a kid. Meaning, I really want some!

Investment Piece: Trend to Try Vinyl Shoes

Heels? Flats? Vinyl shoes come in all the styles. Yes, they are a trend, but they feel a little timeless (maybe people have always wanted their legs to look longer?).

So, I would love to know: have you tried this trend yet? what are you wearing yours with?

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite vinyl shoes for your shopping pleasure below–I’m sure you’ll be seeing me rock some of these soon!

Trend to Try: Vintage Dress GiveAway

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Vintage Dress Giveaway

This is the space where we chat about trends I think we should try, and how I plan on wearing them. Sometimes, the pieces I suggest are not really trends, sometimes I’m already trying them, sometimes I’m not. I love fashion and investment pieces, and I have a complicated relationship with trends-even the ones I love. What can I say?

This month, we aren’t really chatting trends. But I’m still calling it “Trend to Try”-go figure!
As part of our month long birthday celebration (see here and our other giveaway here), we’re giving away 2 (yes, TWO) vintage dresses!

How are vintage dresses a trend? Fair question. As you may have caught on, I’m a huge fan of vintage. I love mixing it with modern pieces, I love wearing it in different ways. I love making it my own. That may not be a “trend”, but it’s my style. Is your style a trend? Maybe, maybe they go hand in hand. Or maybe not. That’s a huge, and worthy, discussion for another time. Now, you’re just wondering how to get your hands on the goods and what a vintage dress giveaway has to do with a “trend to try”, right?

Right.
The goods:

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Vintage Dress Giveway
Pink lace with satin tie, measurements: Bust: 36 Waist: 26 Hips: Open

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Vintage Dress Giveaway
Black lace dress with bow. bust: 34 Waist: 24 Hips open.

The downside and the upside of this vintage dress giveaway? These are real pieces from my closet. I’ve worn them (and cleaned them). So they are my size–but hopefully yours?

Here are the Giveaway details:

So, while vintage might not be a trend, I think the way you can style it and make it your own can be trendy. I love seeing how any piece can be transformed and fit seamlessly into someone’s personal style. That’s the best kind of trendy I know. Here’s how you can win one of these beauties to make your own!

*Let me know how you would style it. From shoes to accessories, I want to know how you would make one of these vintage numbers your own!

*Make sure you’re on our email list:

Subscribe to our mailing list

* Good Luck! The winners t all of our birthday giveaways will be announced next week (yes, you can still enter the t-shirt giveaway!)

If these dresses are not your size: you can tell a friend, or if you love them and want to cut them up to make them your own, we want to hear about that too!

Thank you for your support and I can’t wait to hear about how you would rock these vintage dresses!

Trend to Try: Short Shorts

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Short Shorts

This “trend to try” is not:
*Something I’ve tried
*Something I’ve seen out yet (though I love these editorials)
*Something you could wear to work

BUT I love it.

These short shorts give off such a vintage vibe (they remind me of play suits), would be perfect for the summer, and I love how daring and fun they are.

Investment Piece: Trend to try: Short Shorts

To be clear, we aren’t talking about your mom’s short shorts. (Though if she has some that you love, rock those!) These shorts are almost hot pants: super short, designed to elongate your legs, and for some reason I’ve only seen them in stripes.

I’m sure that there are verisions of this short that are not stripes, I just haven’t seen them. These Khaite shorts and these MDS Stripes shorts have been all over my Instagram feed lately, and I couldn’t help but be intrigued by them. Shorts and I have a love/hate relationship (I’m not the only one who worries that shorts make my legs look weird, right?), but I’m wanting to try these–and yes, they are short.

You could make these work or outing appropriate, I love the above picture with the shorts under a dress. OR you could be daring, and wear them with a blouse or shirt and heels and sandals. And of course, they would look amazing pool or beach side.

Investment Piece: Trend to try: Short Shorts

Things I think we should keep in mind when we try short shorts:

*The biggest thing to wear with a piece like this is confidence. If you love it, people will love it. There is no hiding that the shorts are short. I think the trick is to embrace that. Also, maybe we broke our legs?

* Super short and super tight often don’t go well together. These aren’t the shorts to wear completely oversized but don’t be afraid to play with the fit here. I hate to try things on (but I love shopping, another one of my juxatipositons), but these short shorts are a piece to play with the fit.

I would love to know: would you dare to try these short shorts?

Below I’ve linked some other pairs I’ve found, but I have to say I’m loving these stripes!

Trend to Try: Colored Tights

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Colored Tights

Loves, I have a confession to make. Usually when we chat trend to try, I’ve tried the trend. The trend might be something I’ve been wearing and love, or something that I’ve recently tried and decided that you HAVE to try. This trend? Colored Tights? I haven’t tried it. In fact, I’m a little scared of it.

BUT. Colored tights are a trend. Don’t believe me? Read Vogue, Man Repeller, any trend list, or head over to Atlantic Pacific (who rocks this trend beautifully). Colored tights are a thing. So, are they a thing we should try?

Investment Piece: Black and White with a pop

I love a great patterned tight. I love fishnets. I love wearing tights.

So, are colored tights the next step? And if so, what do we wear them with?

Investment Piece: Trend to Try: Colored Tights

These are my thoughts: we have two options when it comes to colored tights.

One, wear them as a color pop. If your outfit is monochrome, your tights can be the pop it may need. I think this might work best with black or camel outfits. BUT. If you’re willing to play with the color of your tights, why not experiment?

Two, wear tights the same color as your outfit. If this counts there’s a chance all of us have been ahead of this trend when we wear all black and black tights. Somehow, I think this colored tights trend may pack more of a punch when the color is not black. Red, purple, blue, yellow’ why stop at black?

Though, this is not the part where I talk badly about black tights. We all need some. And black is a great color.

However, back to colored tights. Do you dare? With what? What did people say?

I can make you a deal, if you can try this trend, so can I! So, what do you say?

And yes, if you email me (racheladelicia@investmentpiece.com) with a colored tights outfit, I will wear it!

I’ve linked some colored tights below! Happy Trend to Try!
