French Girl cool is something that many of us aspire to-myself included. There are books, articles, how-to’s written about it, but that French essence can be hard to pull off. My way? Black–not necessarily, but black is simple, elegant, a statement and monochrome–all at the same time. Great accessories (these Celine booties are a dream!). Something a little undone, in this case having wavy hair helps. And a red lip (always a red lip). Maybe it’s not the traditional French girl cool, but it’s my take on it! I’d love to know, what’s your version?

Sometimes simple details can make an outfit–like a wrap up! I love the details on these adorable Jcrew Shoes, and love mirroring it with this amazing vintage top! The patterns mix well but don’t match, leaving me feeling a bit edgy but pulled together! It’s the perfect combo–cherries (sweet but not saccharine) and black and white (classic yet the tie can be playful), and they all go great with this slightly cropped jeans!

Happy Friday!

Capes are “in” this season, so what’s better than a cape? A statement cape. One with a pattern, with incredible movement, one that doubles as a shirt. And loves, this cape by Melange Mode fits the bill! Melange Mode is great–they mix African patterns with “western” shapes, which means that we get state to pieces handmade that are just exquisite! I love the play of yellow and navy in the cape, and the movement! All I want to do is run in this cape, it not only looks great, it feels special. Paired with high waisted jeans (though it would look great with pants or skirts or over a slip dress as well!) and heels-it makes a statement, yet is not too overbearing. It’s special and you will get tons of compliments-trust me!

Happy Wednesday! XO

It’s the last day of October (Happy Halloween!) and our last Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness post for the month! Loves, if you know me you know I love juxatipositon–and this is where you indulge me. When I saw this Herrera gown at Recess I fell in love. The fit, the color, the suede, the draping, that gold belt. But loves, we all know how to wear a gown: the heels, the hair, the black tie event, everything that’s expected. But isn’t the unexpected interesting? Wearing a gown to do chores, run errands, just be in? And yes, I’ve thought about it in real life (the thing about being an actress is you get your hands on gowns and some of them you fall in love with–my friends and I have a running joke that there are dresses you love so much you’d vacuum in them–that’s what this is!) I have never minded being overdressed, and have long thought that the cure for a bad day might be a great pair of shoes. So, wearing unexpected gown that makes you feel great, even while grocery shopping? I’m in!

Now, I get that this was for a shoot, but I do really dress up sometimes to scare away a bad mood; so I would love to know: would you try something like this?

And loves, thank you for supporting our Pink incentive; please get you and your loved ones checked!

If you’re celebrating have fun and be safe tonight! Happy Monday!

Loves, it’s our second to last pink post for breast cancer awareness, and this time our pink is floral! I absolutely fell in love with this metallic dress via Anthropology. I have to admit, it gave me serious 70s babe vibes. I love that it’s a soft knit, would go just as well with boots as heels. I love that it’s almost purple (as are these amazing Gucci shoes that I got for a song on Tradesy). I paired it with a (borrowed) vintage belt to make the pink pop! It’s simply perfect for any event-part, dinner, or make it casual!

Happy Friday!

Fashion Halloween: Last Minute

Investment Piece, Fashion, Halloween, bad witch

By now it’s the weekend before Halloween and you either know what you’re going as, or are scrambling for a last minute costume, or have given up! The good is that we have you covered! In the past fashion Halloween posts we’ve shown you how to be Betty Draper, <a href=”http://www.investmentpiece.com/outfits/fashion-halloween-mermaid/Mermaid, and Lady Macbeth, this week it’s last minute ideas!

Shirt
Easy, simple, and perfect for handing out candy! I got the one above last year, but there are versions everywhere from Target to Wildfox this year!

Mask
Investment Piece, fashion, Halloween, mask, blogger

Any sort of mask will do! They go great with any sort of black tie dress you have, and just as great with jeans and a t-shirt!

Riding Boots
Riding boots can be used for just about anything. Pair with a leather jacket for Amelia Earhart, pair with a longer jacket for a solider, wear a blazer and be a jockey. The possibilties are endless

Bunny
Got bunny ears? They work with jeans, or if you have a leotard, you’re a Playboy bunny! The same works with cat ears (or any ears!).

Vintage
Love vintage like I do? This is easy, instead of incorporating your vintage into your modern wardrobe make it a costume! 1950s housewife, 1930s siren, your closet is your oyster!

I’d love to know, do you have your costume planned? Are you dressing up? What are your last minute ideas?

Add yellow to the list of colors that I thought that I would never wear. And yes, there are shades that aren’t for me. However, lately, I can’t help but be attracted to it! I don’t know if it’s the sunny aspects, or the unexpectedness of it–but I can’t’ get enough. Especially when it’s in the shape of this stunning, vintage La Perla corset. The pleating alone is enough to make me swoon. Yet, I wasn’t sure what to pair with it (I don’t shy away from lingerie in public but want it really flow). My solution? Wear it under a turtleneck. I love the juxtatiposition, it was the perfect fall outfit! And socks with sandals! Loves, I have a thing for socks with peep toes –seen as early as here (yes, that’s one of my very first posts!)

That’s how we’re dealing with Wednesday loves!

It finally feels like fall–which is deserving of a celebration in and of itself! And how I’m celebrating? Fall details, like these fur poms on my shoes! The deal? These are little clips that can go on any shoe (or bag or anything!) that add a little pop, and is very much on trend. What I love is that they make any shoe a new shoe–and I love the fur detail! Paired with destroyed jeans and a simple sweater, and a stunning vintage Gucci bag, I think it’s a great welcome to fall! What are your favorite fall details?

As much as I love styling, I sometimes let my mom in on the fun; so this is mom’s pick. If you follow me on Instagram (and please do @racheladelicia) you know that my mom helped me pick out this little number for my pop-up at Beehive Ft Worth! And while green isn’t a go-to color for me, I have to say we were both drawn to this dress and these shoes! I love the wrap and pleat detail on the dress, it’s universally flattering and looks just as great with flats as it does heels. And these heels! I love the vintage feel of them (t-strap and all)! Yes, they are both green, but almost come off as neutral–I’ve worn the shoes with pinks, reds, metallics, and your standard neutrals. Great job Mom!

Fashion Halloween: Lady MacBeth

Fashion Halloween, lady Macbeth, investment piece, fashion blogger,

I’ve been a 1950s housewife and a mermaid, you know I’m an actress–is it any surprise that I would chose a Shakespeare character for our next Fashion Halloween segment? (Missed the last two? Get caught up here and ) I have always loved Macbeth, and when I tutored kids would always suggest Lady as a costume idea; mainly as I felt that it would be easy and fun –I mean who doesn’t want to pace and rub their hands saying “Out Damn Spot” all night? And this year? I decided to take my own advice! The look is simple (full disclosure, I based my look on the Marion Collitard version from 2015, haven’t seen that version? You should), all you need is a dress that lends itself to a gown, meaning maybe a train, maybe a sleeve, but really any long dress will do. (This dress look familiar? See the original look here) I happened to have a rhinestone headpiece. And chose to do very simple makeup-hallowed eyes as the main look. Of course, if you wanted a more “traditional” look you could of course rent a “Shakespeare” costume. However, a wild woman driven crazy and muttering to herself? That’s a fashion Halloween I could get behind!
