Leather can mean a lot of things: a staple, a jacket, the pants you should have, and even a fetish. We think of leather as being tough, hard, and not red carpet ready. The reality? Leather can be anything you want it to be: staple, a jacket, pants, dress, and even dressed up. How? Let’s chat about it.
How to Dress Up Leather: do you want to look hard or soft? Both are on the table and both are great options. There are stunning leather dresses that can look amazing in any setting. Pair one with a great pair of heels and you’re good to go. Take a fantastic leather skirt (I’m in love with some of the recent midi options), pair it with a great blouse and heels or boots, and you’ll rock any event you’re invited to. I can’t think of anything that doesn’t go with leather pants, they are the jeans you didn’t know you had. Any of these options can be “toughened up”, any of these looks can be “softened”.
My take on dressing up leather? Stunning leather accessories paired with a vintage dress. Make it look like they go together, almost like they shouldn’t be apart. Take these leather sleeves (which also look great with tees, tanks, any top that show them off), they add something to this vintage Chloe dress. Tough? Maybe. But, you know me, I love the juxatipositon! I love the mix of the leather and the silk of the dress. I love that it’s both soft and tough, and that yet, they go together. Would this dress look great on it’s own with heels? Of course! Again, I love the mix of wearing it with boots. It’s perfect for winter and also perfect for a juxatipositon. The result? Dressed up leather that balances the line between hard and soft, casual and dressed up, and all your own.
I’d love to know: how do you dress up leather? I’ve linked some of my favorite leather pieces, and similar to the above piece above, below for your shopping pleasure. I’d love to see how you rock them!
