Hostess Gifts

Investment Piece: Hostess Gifts

Starting this week, you may be attending (or hosting) holiday meals and events with your friends, family, and co-workers. As a child my mom instilled in me the importance of a hostess gift (and a thank you), and now that I’ve hosted my fair share of events, I have OPINIONS about them.

This isn’t about what side or drink you may have been asked to contribute (of course take that!), but rather a small (or big) token to let the host know how much you appreciate being in their home. Hostess gifts do make a difference and are a great way to thank the person who may have deep cleaned and been cooking for days.

While there’s nothing wrong with a bottle of wine, flowers, a plant, etc as I’ve gotten older (and hosted) I’m more touched by a hostess gift that has some thought behind it. Hostess gifts that meant that my friends and family really paid attention to my needs, decor, hobbies have stayed in the front of my mind for years.

Of course, you know your loved ones best, but I can’t imagine any host not loving a gift that was personal, thoughtful, tailored to their interests. I’m thinking personalized serving ware or linens. Games that they love. The weighted throw they’ve been wanting. Any of those I think would be such a thoughtful gift (though again, they may also love a bottle of wine to share with you!).

Below, I’ve rounded up some things I would love if I were hosting! I would love to know- what’s your go-to hostess gift?

Sunday Chronicles: Hostess Gifts

Loves! It’s another Sunday, and another Gift Guide. Within the next week, some of us will begin traveling for Thanksgiving, or maybe having a Friendsgiving, or in general, hosting or being hosted somewhere. I’m a big fan of the hostess gift. It not only lets people know that you’re appreciative of the invite, and willing to help as needed, I think it’s the one gift that can immediately acknowledge someone. And acknowledged people are happy people. (I’m 99% sure that’s science!)

Hostess gifts can also be as broad or as personal as you want them to be. You can’t go wrong with wine, or a little tea towel. You can also get the hostess something they, or their family, have been really wanting. One time a friend gave her hostess a gift card for a maid service after the holidays–tis a gift that you can be creative with!

That all being said, I’ve rounded up some things I think are perfect for hostess gifts. From things for the holiday table, to little holiday trinkets, and even some party poppers!

What do you love to give and get for hostess gifts?

Sunday Chronicles: Hostess Gifts

Investment Piece: Hostess Gifts

Beginning this week, many of us will be traveling to friends and family, bringing with us holiday cheer and (hopefully) pie. From the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday through the entire holiday season, we will most likely be eating/staying/partying at someone else’s home. Which begs the question: what should you do about a hostess gift?

I’m from the South and a big fan of the hostess gift. Even if it’s just a bottle of wine. Sometimes, especially if it’s a bottle of wine. Beyond the way a hostess gift allows you to contribute to the festivities, I’m a fan of the way a hostess gift says thank you for opening your home.

This is not the only time you’ll hear me say this, but I think that gift giving is personal. I have no idea what the people in your life might like, or your relationship to gifting with them. At the very least, I hope that my gift guides inspire you to find something special for your gifts. At the most, I hope my picks are something you can give! And in between, I hope that my gift guides make shopping for gifts if not fun, bearable.

But back to the hostess gifts.
**According to my mom, and etiquette specialist, if you’re bringing food to a party you don’t have to bring a hostess gift. I’m letting you make that call.

Below are my picks for hostess gifts. You’ll notice most of them are small, related to eating and drinking, and inexpensive. There’s no need to go over the top with a hostess gift.

That being said—if the hostess is someone you’re incredibly close to, feel free to pick something personal and not related to the party. From a book she’d love to something she collects (I collect vintage perfume bottles), anything that says “thank you” is a great idea.

And if nothing else, there’s wine.

I’d love to know: what are your go-to hostess gifts?

Wishing us all a week of merry and shoes! Xo RA
