Loves, I often have encouraged you to step outside your comfort zone and try new things in your fashion. Wanna know a secret? It’s hard for me, too. It can be hard to try a new thing, but the upside is that sometimes you find something new–and it fits right in. We know I’m a fan of jumpsuits, and I’m open to color. However, I never thought of myself as a “uniform” gal (blame it on commercial head shots, or old pics of a Boy Scout shirt that I used to wear “ironically” that I now realize was just-not good), but I kept away from vintage like this flight suit. Then, one night I was a friend’s pop up, and on a whim I tried it on–and loves I’m so glad I did. A bit out of my “range”? Maybe, but it fits!

I love the color, the zippers, the fact that it’s a flight suit, but not overt. It goes amazing with heels, and great with sneakers. It’s been out to a cocktail party, and worn with sneakers for a more casual day. I love it with these gold necklaces (vintage Monet-read about them here and Cassandra’s Collections, one of my faves!) but it also can stand alone. It’s not me, but it fit my style. I love it! The lesson? Trying new things is good for you!
Or at least, finding new clothes that fit you perfectly is not something to pass up.

What’s something that you didn’t think you’d love but you do?

Heart prints? They aren’t just for little girls and en masse Valentine cards. I have to admit, I’m not a sweet dresser. I like bows, hearts, pink, but like an edge; so when I pick bows, pinks, and hearts I like them edgy. This Rixio UK dress fits the bill. I love that the heart print is subtle, the off the shoulder, and bias cut. It’s a heart dress, with just enough edge for a heart like mine, and who can beat that?

I’ve worn with dress to a tea (Alice in Wonderland themed so it was a perfect fit!), and with sneakers for a casual happy hour. I originially bought this dress in the thought that it would be great for Valentine’s Day, a way to wear hearts without being saccrine; I didn’t wear it then, but have loved that this print has fit in at all other occasions. Here, I love the juxatipositon with the green shoes, and how perfect were these flowers we stumbled upon??

In case you didn’t know about Rixio UK- I love them! They’re a London based company, all products are done in silk–often with vintage patterns and fabrics! The designs are fun, edgy, and just a hint of sweet, and simply perfect. They fit true to size and there’s something for everyone. You can find Rixio on their site Rixio UK or at Net-a-Porter.

Hope your Friday is just sweet enough! I HEART THIS DRESS AND YOU! XO RA

I have nothing against the “Candian” or “Texan” tuxedo. I actually think that it can be akin to wearing a monochrome look–just with denim. And in the heat of summer, yes it already feels like summer, I have to admit that I throw on my cutoffs on, and I am a huge fan of denim shirts; I run around in variations of this outfit all summer long. But because you know me well by now, you know that there are times when I can’t leave well enough alone, I have to add a contrast to an outfit, a pop. Loves, my new fave thing for that very purpose are these ankle straps- they can be worn together, seperately, with any shoes, on your wrist. The possibilities are truly endless. And I love this color!

These Attico ankle straps come in different colors (some are studded–which could be so fun!) and can be found here. I’m planning on putting them on with jeans, shorts, skirts, and dresses–hopefully the ankle straps will distract from the heat!

And a non-fashion related tip: walking around half built houses is fun! My mom and I love imagining what it will look like when it’s done. And not a bad place for a photo shoot!

I’d love to know: would you wear these straps? With what?

Early last week I was told that this dress was a perfect solution for wearing black in Summer. Loves, this is where I confess: I didn’t know that we had to look for ways to wear black (call it my inner New Yorker, but I’m not a native New Yorker), even in Summer. Maybe you subscribe to the theory that even dark colors should be “Summer-ized”. Maybe you think black is a year round color. And we can all agree that no matter where you fall on that spectrum no one thinks heavy fabrics and heat are a great combo. Loves, no matter what you want to debate from those theories, this black dress (For Love & Lemons) is simply perfect for the summer months. Sheer, with Swiss dots, and a adjustable neckline, it would look great with heels at a Summer soirée, great with sandals, or over a bathing suit for a day at your favorite body of water. I personally believe that black is a seasonless color, but this may be the perfect Summer black. And with these espadrilles and hat? Let’s Summer–in black of course!

Austin Loves–I got this dress at Lively Collective (@livelycollective on Instagram and on South 1st), and that little shop is quickly becoming one of my fave places to shop when I’m in town! It’s full of boho, beachy, and local treasures–everything you need to get you through the summer (and yes, even some black!) Happy Shopping!

Loves, have I mentioned that I love the Prada runway?? The feathers, the fun, the high fashion, it was all amazing. So when I found this vintage coat with feather detail on the collar and sleeves, I couldn’t resist it! (And the colors were amazing too!) It has all the fun and feathers of the Prada runway, and the added benefit is that it’s a find from the 1920s. I think it would be great as a dress, but I love the juxatipositon of the coat with the ripped jeans, and we all know I love these shoes!

My fave thing about pieces like this one? it’s the perfect combination of fashion and fun, it can elevate any outfit or day, and is the epitome of this week! It’s been such a great week full of love and celebrations, and I can’t think of a more fitting outfit.

I say all the time that fashion should be fun and that you should wear what makes you happy. I believe in that. And what could be more fun than polka dots? But loves, I have to admit to you that even though I believe all those things, I sometimes worry that things might be too short for me. And that maybe I’m too old for certain things. Crazy thoughts, right? Mainly because if you came to me with an amazing fun polka dot dress that made you feel special and invincible, but you were worried about it being a little too short, I would want to tell you how things that make you happy are amazing! That you should wear what makes you happy. That maybe there is a such a thing as too short, but that if everything is covered and you’re comfortable, then have at it! That if a polka dot dress that is unique and you finds you that you don’t leave it. Isn’t it crazy that we forget that we should speak to ourselves the same way that we should talk to our friends?
My fears aside, I’m glad that I didn’t walk away from this dress. Putting it on simply makes me smile, and what else should fashion do?
Investment Piece: Polka Dots
There’s something I love about classics-polka dots–in a “new” way–these sleeves! This was an amazing find from Timeless Vixen (loves, I love her, she is so kind, fun, and her collection! Shop her online here) via A Current Affair (read all about my LA experience here and if you’re in NYC make sure that you visit them this coming weekend!). This dress is both fresh and timeless, all at the same time. Again, I did worry about the length, but it’s just fun! The colors, the sleeves, the personality. It makes me want to dance all night, but would be just as great at dinners, parties, and events (and loves, I hope that there’s dancing at all of those things!).

Pics are by Katy Shayne (I always remember to tag her on Instagram, but not here-she’s amazing!). My shopping picks are below!

How are you feeling this Friday? This year has been a lot, right? And of course last year was too, I know. What I’m learning? Things are always going to be a lot; and within all of that, we all have our ups and downs of our own. Loves, I have to admit, between last year and some of this, I have been feeling pretty low. Not completely low, but but not 100% myself. And when part of what you do is put yourself and your stlyle out there, feeling not yourself isn’t great. I have no answers for that, I can tell you that what I did was solider on (I don’t know what else to do), reach out to the people I love, and really focus on how I want to feel and creating situations that let me feel that way. Can we control all the things? Nope, but we can control ourselves–and loves that’s a lot! I’m happy to report that I’m feeling good again, and I can’t wait to share all the good things coming with you!

Investment Piece: Feeling Good Again

Speaking of Feeling Good Again, it was the song playing during this shoot, and it seems to fit. (If you didn’t have the pleasure of going to college in TX, I cannot recommend Robert Earl Keen enough, and this song is a great start). This dress is one of those happy accidents, I got it on super sale at By George Warehouse Sale. ( Haider Ackermann!) It’s a little heavy for the season-wool over silk, but I love the layers (silk, the over lay, the silt, satin at the cuffs and hem). It’s simple, elegant, and able to be all on its own. I feel able to conquer the world, NY, or myself in it. I also kinda get an Olsen vibe from it, and if that doesn’t make you feel good, I don’t know what does!

Hope this Friday, and weekend, finds you feeling very good!

Morning After

Shopping can be like a wild night out. You never quite know how things are going to go, what you’re going to find, or who you’re going home with. You might wake up the morning after with regret, or you migh wake up the morning after loving what you did. Yes, here we buy into the theory that the morning after can lead to a long and happy relationship– but we limit this theory to shopping. So my tips for having a great morning after? Stick to places you love that treat you right (this number is from RecessLA and we know that they are one of my favorites). Know your limit (not always fun, but your bank appreciates it). Choose wisely (dresses like this Prada number won’t steer you wrong).

If it’s another kind of morning after I recommend coconut water and low light. A great burger doesn’t hurt either!

Loves, let’s chat a minute about lingerie dressing. There are so many versions of it, there are so many ways to wear it, there is so much to love about it. This Prada dress is what I consider the best of high end lingerie dressing. It combines the classic “little black dress”, a little lace, and a hint of nude. Silky and Lacey, but perfect for a cocktail party, though I won’t judge you for wearing this around the house! The result? Not your average dress with just a hint of lingerie. Sophisticated, fun, and not a thing to regret in the morning.

When there are many, many things to not like about the morning, it’s always nice to have purchases like this to make the morning after easier (and give you something to look forward to in the evening!)

We know I love fashion. We know that I love Art. We know that I think fashion is Art. We know that a goal of mine is to be Art. Is it any surprise that I love this dress?

I love going to museums, and I also like dinosaurs (yes, like a kid!); so the tar pits in Los Angeles hold a special facisnation for me. I love the thought of walking on history! And though you can’t play in the tar (which would require a different outfit entirely) the scenery is beautiful! The tar pits are connected to LACMA, which makes this art inspired dress a perfect fit. I love the abstract faces, the color blocking, the cut out. It’s classic, but it’s edgy. This dress is silk, but a Topshop find-so it’s completely affordable!

This piece is perfect for gallery openings, museum days, cocktails, dinner, or 9-5. I like to think it brings me a bit closer to being Art, and that I will take every time!

Happy Friday! XO

There’s been a few reports lately about Gucci doing collaborations with this or that designer, and I have to put it out there, Gucci- if you’re listening, and you need people to collab with- I volunteer as tribute. You can take me, I’m yours.

Loves, I often wax poetic about how much I love Gucci, I know many of your other factor it fashion bloggers do as well. It’s hard not to. To me, this resergnce of Gucci under Alessandro Michele is the perfect combination of fun, details, the classic shapes, and excess. There are pieces that simply belong in a museum, there are knit pants that I long to live my life in; and the frivolous way that the fashion is presented (skateboards) is just magical. I am an unapologetic fan girl and have already googled how to sell them my kidney for the shoes I want. (Only slightly kidding)

Pink is the color of the season, or one of them, and surprise I love this Gucci Pink. I love the simplicity of the cut, the details, the bow. It’s great for running around (it would go great with sneakers), dinner, work, events (these are Zara boots but it would also go great with heels or higher boots). This dress is available at Reccessla right now (loves, they have so much Gucci in) and it was a joy to play and shop in! I managed to leave it behind, which is the most shocking piece of information here, but yet I can’t think of a more perfect Spring dress.

How are you rocking pink?
