Loves, it’s a been a summer. And yes, we have more to go. And yes, there’s more to share. However, I thought I’d share some “behind the scenes” footage: not all looks end up as a story, not all moments are immediately shared- but we’re on this journey together. And you get to be a part of this. I’ve been in and out of LA (meetings, shopping, auditions). I’m in TX for the beginning of football season- which I’m excited about! But here’s a look at some moments that made me happy, outfits I may or may not have bought, and a peak at how my days go! Of course more can be found on Instagram (@racheladelicia)

Hair Perfume

image

Loves, I travel a lot. I work out a lot. What I don’t always do a lot? Wash my hair. I mean, yes, I wash it- but not daily. Sometimes, I simply rinse it. Sometimes, I wait till a blow out appointment. But I always want to look, and smell, perfect. So I’m absolutely loving this new trend- hair perfume. There are so many brands, so many scents. My fave? Lighter, non-floral scents. I simply spray at my roots and brush through. My hair smells great, I feel pulled together , and the scent lasts.

I’d love to know – are you a fan? What are some of your beauty secrets?

Classic. Soft silk. Perfect pink. That drape. When I found this beauty on Etsy, I couldn’t resist it! The great thing about vintage dresses like this one, is that it doesn’t feel dated. The length, the cut, the color all feel fresh’ and because it’s pre-loved, the price is great as well! Everyone wins.

Sunday Chronicles: Mermaids

image

Loves, you have probably seen me joke more than once about being a mermaid (although it’s not really a joke). I love the ocean- and love mermaids, and really want to be one. The good news? There’s a way to become one! More than one company specializes in mermaid photo shoots- complete with tail. And yes, I have every intention of booking mine. While there are several companies that do this, one of my fave from research is Project Mermaids. They not only shoot beautiful pics, part of their proceeds go to charities that help clean our waters and protect the ocean’s animals. So everyone wins. You can find (and book) at Project Mermaids<\a> or follow them on Instagram at @projectmermaids.

I’d love to know: what do you want to be (like a mermaid)? And what are some of the creative ways that you give back?

Wishing us all a week of fins and amazing shoes! XO RA

Make-Up Bag: No MakeUp

Loves, so many of my posts say ” no makeup”, I’ve made a big deal over makeovers and you may have begun to get the hint: I’m not a big make-up person. It’s not that I wear nothing, I can’t live without mascara. It’s just that I’m not a fan of the overly made up look. I love the look of glowing skin. I simply just want my skin to look great, and look like it’s that way on it’s own! So below are the products that I use to make my skin look like glowing skin!

image

This gold mask from Peter Thomas Roth helps firm and tighten my skin, and the gold makes it dewy and gold! The instructions say to leave on for 20 mins. I’ve worn it all day with mascara and lipstick–I love it!

This moisturizer from Glam Glow is radiant–under foundation, as the base, it’s just pearly enough that I glow, and feel like I don’t need much else! Pro tip–put it on your collar bones for a night out!

Even great skin needs help, and that’s where Glossier comes in! I love their blendable and light concealer and tints–they aren’t heavy, don’t sit on your skin and they look completely nautral. These are my go-tos when I “wear” makeup, but they give me the fresh face, “no makeup” look that I love!

I’d love to know! What do you do for makeup?

Inspiration can come in all sizes and shapes–and on Instagram! That’s what I love most about magazines, books, and now Instagram, scrolling through and seeing how other people and brands have put together outfits can inspire me to do my own “version”! That’s what happened with this Intermix pic:
image
I loved the play of high/low hem, the sweater with a more summer skirt, the flats with it! I thought “what a perfect transition outfit”. And loves, we are headed right for transitions. So I began to think what I could do to recreate the look. I knew that I had shoes similar to this, I knew I had a turtleneck, and a striped skirt? Easy! So I put together my version, and with the return of the marine layer in Southern CA this week, it was perfect timing! I love the ease of the outfit, the play, the light sweater and hem keep me cool, and yet I like the feel of “the almost fall” about it.

I’d love to know: what inspires you?

Great Investment: Jaquemus

image

Most of the time when there’s a big item I want, I save up for it, I savor the process of waiting and working towards a purchase. (It’s not only great for my budget, it’s great for the thrill of it!) However, sometimes things just fall into your lap, and I’m not one to turn down gifts from the fashion gods. I knew that Jaquemus had released these circle/square sandals and , like most of his offerings, they were just amazing and fun. But they were sold out. Instantly. I saw people offering to buy them off other people on Instagram. So I didn’t think about them, didn’t plan for them. Then I went to SXSW, happened to spend a bit of down time shopping, wandered into ByGeorge (a great boutique that carries lines like Jaquemus, etc, and can be shopped online! ByGeorge). They happened to have one pair. In my size. That fit like a dream. Fate? I like to think so.

image

So I went for them. And I’ve never regretted it. They have so much personality, they go with everything, they add a punch–and people stop and ask me about them. I love that the circle/square is both in the toe and the heel. I love the color. I love that it’s a statement without being over the top. I love that they are modern, and yet they go with my vintage.

I’m a fan of saving and enjoying the shopping, but I also think that great investments are waiting for us, and sometimes we just have to see them!

About the designer/line:Self-taught designer Simon Porte Jacquemus launched his namesake line at age 18, after moving to Paris from his native South of France. Thoroughly of-the-moment and full of personality, Jacquemus (a nod to the designer’s mother’s maiden name) approaches modernist French womenswear with an eye for deconstruction and an optimistic spirit. Bright primary and pastel colors and inventive geometric cuts feature in the label’s signature asymmetric crop tops, oversized trousers and overcoats, colorblocked knits, and futuristically shaped dresses. Jacquemus’ skill at infusing innovative shapes with an irrepressible sense of youth and femininity has won critical acclaim as well as a devoted following: the designer is the winner of a special jury prize from LVMH in 2015, and a finalist for the group’s Prize for Young Designers the year before. And you can shop him directly at Jaquemus

There’s the research that proves that Chanel is currently a better investment than the stock market (see, I knew what I was doing here), but that can also mean that Chanel prices can soar. I don’t know about you, but on every vintage shopping site, every consignment store trip, I see Chanel prices that are a big steep–making it out of reach for a lot of us. However, you can still find great deals–you have to search a bit, go to stores a bit, but the Chanel that you love? It’s out there for you.

I found a great deal on this vintage Chanel skirt at Garment Modern in Austin and feel in love! It has the great classic buttons, a classic shape, fantastic silk, and went with the shoes I had on! Also what I love, while the shape is classic, and can be styled classically, it can also be modern and a bit edgy. I will wear this with blouses and sweaters, but I love the unexpectedness of a bralette. That’s the amazing thing about a classic, it provides a base, you provide fresh ideas. I encourage you to play with your classics, try them with things you might not have thought would go together –you might surprise yourself, and get a great outfit!

Happy Monday! XO RA

Sunday Chronicles: Home

image

Loves, I’ve been thinking a lot about home this week. As you may know, I split my time between LA (where I lived for 15ish years) and TX (where I’m from). I’m aware that I am completely blessed to be able to make a crazy, nomadic life work–and blessed to be able to feel at home in different places. It’s not always easy: there’s travel, there are times when either place doesn’t seem to fit, and times when I miss wherever I happen not to be. But overall? I love it. So what exactly does home mean? And what are we building when we talk about home?

I think we can all agree that home is more than a house. For me, home can be a person, a place, or just the feeling of acceptance and support. Where my mom is, that’s home. Cities I love. Friends that love me. Certain classes, certain teachers (yes, both acting and Soul Cycle–I am a cliche). Even this site, as we get to know each other and you support me! Houses are a part of that (I’m getting to watch some dear friends put together their dream house, and it’s thrilling how much it feels like home to all of us), but the feeling is so much more important than the physical. Throughout our lives, I think that we are all looking for home, that place of respite that feeds you. Home can bring you comfort. Support you. Inspire you. Be a place where you’re comfortable stating your needs, and a place where they’re met. It’s a place where people miss you, where you’re wanted, where people care. And loves, that’s so much more than four walls.

So as I’ve been in various places I call home this week, and talked to people who are home to me, I can’t help but think about how lucky I am to have so much home–and what we can do to be home to each other. If home is simply a place where we’re good to each, could we make everyone feel at home? And what would it look like if we did? Is it possible for us to make a home for all of us?

I’d love to know your thoughts on home, on how it makes you feel, on what you think about making each other feel at home!

Wishing us all a week of home and amazing shoes! XO RA

I love classics, be it pieces or Icons. So when the two combine? I’m all in. I love the feel of this vintage opera coat-the way it swings, the sleeves, the color. And paired with black pants, flats and a bun-I can’t help but feel a little like Audrey myself. It’s a perfect combination for lunch, dinner, or just a day–it feels put together and yet really fun. And isn’t that the best part of classic Icons?
