How do you dress “romantic”? What comes to your mind? I always think of big, sweeping, voluminous dresses and skirts. I have mental images of being on rooftops, or running towards each other on beaches, in airports, or getting off trains for someone. Old Hollywood, grand gestures, and OUTFITS.
However, not all moments in my romances have been like that. Has romance changed?
What does modern romance look like?
To me, modern romance means details. (See these mink cuffs on this vintage number). It means going with the flow. (I choose to wear jeans under the dress instead of the slip that comes with it. This way I can run around). Romance means the unexpected (these shoes) and the comfortable (the bun). It’s still a look, but just a bit updated.
Old fashioned or modern, one of the most romantic things (I think) is paying attention. Doing what your partner loves. And some things I love? Fashion and art. And yes, I think fashion is art. Take me to a museum, take me to a fashion show, let me see all the things. Recently, I got the best gift and date when my mom, sister and I got a chance to tour the Fashion Nirvana exhibit at the McNay Muesem in San Antonio. It was the perfect selection of 1990s fashion, music, statements, and art. I was in heaven!

For my modern romantic date (yes, spending time with anyone you love is a date!) I couldn’t help but do my take on modern romance. Vintage and jeans. Makeup that’s retro and casual hair. Details that are both a juxtatiposition and match. And paying attention to everything.
