Simple

All of us need things that are just simple–that we can throw on and forget about, without sacrificing looking good. And for that: this dress is a life-saver. The top, with it’s low back, keeps it fashion forward; the long skirt and pleats keep it classy, and it’s some of the softest cotton ever. It’s great for the pool, dinner, errands–or even to throw on after the gym (which has been my favorite way so far to wear it!).

I know–this post has so many pictures (and yes, we cut some out) but I couldn’t resist sharing all the details of this outfit–I LOVE them. These JCrew pants have been my obsession since I saw them in a press photo back in January–just the right amount of sailor, of stripe, of button–and the tie up back–love! There’s a crease panel down the front to help them feel fresh, they fit amazing, and I want to wear them with everything. The jacket is my treasure from the Madewell party at SXSW–and I love that my name is on it. Wearing it as a shirt kept me from feeling too sweet, and I felt the red lettering went just perfectly with the pants! I know I use the word love a lot to describe my clothes–but I honestly do, and can’t tell you enough how much I love these pieces!

Hope your Monday details bring you just as much joy! XO RA

Classic

Here’s what’s amazing about classic looking separates: no matter the day, no matter the weather (hello wind!), no matter the location they can elevate your look. I’m loving these Zara knitwear sets–the flared sleeves keeps the feeling modern, but it’s just so classic. Who can beat black and white? And the sweater let me layer!Perfect over jeans, great with skirts, I’ve been wearing the sweater all over my house! And–no matter how strong the wind was I felt pulled together.

Unexpected

Loves, this is the story of letting yourself stay open to all the unexpected in the fashion world. If you had asked me a few months or weeks ago about what colors I liked to wear I would not have mentioned green. Not that I hated it–and have always loved kelly green–but I would have told you that green doesn’t look good on me. That I have to be careful with it. That any green that had the least bit of yellow in it wasn’t for me.
Loves, I was wrong. While shopping at one of my favorite LA boutiques, yes RecessLA!, one of my gay boyfriends insisted I try this dress on. The shape is insanely great and I loved the top, but I told him that the color wouldn’t look good on me. Luckily for us both, he didn’t listen or care. He made me try it on–and I loved it. Marie, the shop owner, loved it–it fits like a dream. And the color works! I love that it changes color in different light. I love that it’s perfect to pair with belts. I love that you can dress it up or down. And I love that it’s a little out of my comfort zone.
The moral? Yes, like what you like. But leave yourself open to all the yummy unexpected out there, it may just look great on you!

#Madewell Embroidery

image

During SXSW I had the pleasure of going to a Madewell party- where your denim was embroidered by Ft Lonsome ( a customer embroider company who does so much more!). Embroidered denim is popping up everywhere- Alexander Wang, etc- and Madewell is now offering the service (for a mere $10 extra). You can get anything your heart desires put on your jeans or jackets- your name, a word, a patch. Besides being Southern and my love of having my name on everything – I have to say I’m loving this new trend! It makes any item more unique- and is a way to have fun!
image
At the party we had the option of shirts, dresses and jackets- but the service is available for any Madewell item online! I got this sweet jacket (sized down to make it more shirt-like) and got my names. I’ve been wearing it with everything!

I’d love to know- is this a trend you’ll try?

One Piece Wonder

We know I love me a jumpsuit. And pockets. And a little hint of sass. So what I’m saying is I think I have fallen in love with this one piece wonder–and I’m not the least bit shy about it. There is a hint of sexiness that is perfect for summer (however, this would also look great with a tank top or shirt underneath to make it work appropriate). It’s incredibly comfy. And I can promise you will get tons of compliments! What’s not to love?

Sometimes the best outfits come out of desperation–I was running late the other morning, nothing fitting right, and then–I belted this sweater to wear as a dress and my life changed. While this star sweater is great over jeans, pants, skirts, worn over a slip and tied with a belt it became my new favorite dress. Easy, comfy, and so stylish–that’s what I can a win!

Vintage Dress

Vintage lovers can occasionally be broken down into two camps–those who love vintage that has a modern feel and can fit in with day to day outfits, or those who gravitate to a more “costume” look, meaning that it can feel that the outfit is more costume. Me? I love it all–but I do like when whatever I’m wearing feels fresh and current. This dress straddles that line–and I love it. It’s clearly very vintage–1920s, but paired with heels, or even loafers and it feels new. And isn’t that what’s exciting about vintage?

On Sunday Investment Piece turns 1! I am a little excited to see how much this product of love has grown–and am so grateful to all of you, as you are the biggest part of this! So it’s a bit ironic that one of my first posts, Wardrobe Workhorse featured this same jumpsuit. Spoiler alert: I still wear it all the time, and denim jumpsuits are in. Way in. I will tell you again how it goes with everything–heels, flats, flip flops even. Accessories can change it up, or it’s perfect just on it’s own! And there are so many options this season–short sleeve, long sleeve, etc. My advice? Get one!
